Goodbody builds on Galway presence as wealth management demand grows

As Galway’s business community grows and private wealth becomes more complex, demand for expert investment advice and long-term financial planning is creating new opportunities for Goodbody. Evin Cusack, senior director – regional markets, wealth management at Goodbody, explains how the firm is positioning itself to support clients across Galway and the wider West.

“Goodbody has had a presence in Galway for almost 30 years, so our commitment to the West is well established. What is changing is the scale of the opportunity. As prosperity has grown across the region, so too has the need for high-quality investment advice and long-term financial planning.

“The West has a strong community of business owners, family businesses, senior executives and professionals who are thinking about how to build, manage and transfer wealth. We recognise the opportunity to invest further in our local team and make Goodbody’s wider expertise more accessible to them.”

A significant step was the move to a new office in Eyre Square in September 2025, shared with AIB. The location creates opportunities to connect clients with a wider range of financial services.

“Our move to Eyre Square consolidates our presence in the centre of Galway city. It means clients can meet their adviser locally while still accessing the full breadth of expertise available across the firm.

“Being located with AIB also allows us to work more closely with colleagues across the wider group. With the client’s agreement, we can connect people to relevant expertise and services, including private banking and lending solutions, where appropriate. It creates a more joined-up experience for clients whose financial needs may extend across their personal wealth, family and business interests.”

For Cusack, long-term relationships are fundamental to wealth management, particularly when clients are navigating complex financial decisions.

“Wealth management is a relationship-led business, and trust is built over time. It comes from understanding not only a client’s financial assets and risk appetite, but also their family circumstances, business interests, ambitions and priorities for the future.

“There is real value in being able to sit down face to face with an adviser, particularly when discussing significant or complex financial decisions.”

The financial priorities facing clients vary, from building investments and preparing for retirement to planning a business sale or transferring wealth between generations.

“Every client’s circumstances are different, but the central challenge is often the same: turning a range of financial priorities into one clear, long-term plan.

“For professionals and senior executives, that may mean building wealth, structuring pension and investment assets effectively, providing for children and preparing for retirement. As retirement approaches, the focus often shifts towards generating a sustainable income and ensuring investments remain appropriate for the client’s needs, timeframe and attitude to risk.

“For business owners, personal and business finances are frequently closely connected. They may be considering succession, a future sale, transferring the business to the next generation or extracting and investing wealth built up through the company.

“These are significant decisions, and it can be easy to put them off. Starting early creates more options.”

Bringing business and personal finances together is particularly important for entrepreneurs whose wealth is closely tied to their company. Goodbody draws on expertise across corporate advisory, capital, investment, pensions and succession planning to help clients consider these decisions together.

“For business owners in particular, personal wealth and business ambitions are often closely connected, yet they are not always considered together. At Goodbody, we can bring both sides into a single view. From corporate advisory and access to capital to financial planning, pensions, investment and succession, we connect the expertise needed to support both the business and the individuals behind it.

“That could mean helping an owner fund growth, extract and invest profits, diversify wealth beyond the business, plan for their family and, when the time is right, prepare for succession or exit. Our corporate advisory and wealth management specialists can work together, alongside the client’s other professional advisers, to connect decisions about the future of the business with plans for the wealth it has created.”

Looking ahead, Goodbody sees further opportunities to serve Galway’s business community and the wider Western region, with continued investment in its regional operation.

“Clients can expect continued investment from Goodbody in our regional business and in the people who support it. Our growth will come from deepening local relationships, expanding our reach and making our broader expertise more accessible across the West.

“Our ambition is straightforward: to be local where it matters while giving clients access to the wider capabilities of an intelligence-led wealth, investment and capital platform. That means combining personal, long-term relationships with informed advice, specialist expertise and relevant opportunities. Our enhanced Galway presence is an important part of that commitment and of Goodbody’s future growth.”
