Glasgow City Council tax exemptions could save residents hundreds amid bill rises
- Glasgow residents struggling with rising bills may be entitled to a council tax discount or even complete exemptions, according to Glasgow City Council.
- The council announced a 5.9% council tax increase for 2026/27, with Scottish Water charges rising by 8.7%. This change took place in April, last month.
- GCC has highlighted 18 common ways residents can seek financial help. The council stresses that the sooner you contact them, the quicker you can get help with your bill.
- Common exemptions include the Single Person Discount for sole occupiers over 18, and the All Occupiers Under 18 Exemption where properties house only those under 18.
- The Disabled Persons’ Reduction is available where properties have “extra facilities, or space, which are essential or of major importance to the disabled person’s well-being by the nature and extent of their disability”.
- Residents facing payment difficulties are urged to complete the Council Tax Contact form as soon as possible to explore available options.
