PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A local non-profit organization combined educational subjects with mental health in hopes to better the minds of kids in Bay County.
Saturday, the United Hands Project hosted its second annual STEMental Summit at the FSU-PC Holley Center. The summit combines the elements of STEM, science, technology, engineering, and math, with coping skills and mechanisms for improving mental health.
Organizers said twice as many people participated in the camp this year compared to last year’s summit.
The founders of the United Hands Project said their goal is to teach young people how to juggle the demands of education and taking care of themselves and their mental health.
”We are looking to accomplish just getting the word out about mental health, and breaking the stigmas and barriers of all things mental health related,” Sophia Crittenden, co-founder of the United Hands Project, said. “Whether it’s learning how to develop coping skills through music therapy, art therapy journaling, gaming for mental health. Things like that.”
Next year’s summit is already booked for July 12th at the FSU-PC Holley Center.
