TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) – The results of Tuesday’s property tax referendum in Trussville are in and residents said ‘no’ to an increase for the benefit of Trussville City Schools.
According to the results from Trussville, 5,317 residents voted Tuesday or voted absentee.
The final tally showed 2,232 (42%) were for, 3,085 (58%) were against the property tax increase. Only provisional ballots are pending.
The proposed property tax increase was 12.9 mills, or around $129 in additional taxes per year per $100,000 of property value.
According to Trussville City Schools, the money would have been used to build a new elementary school, enhance the middle school, and add a wing to the high school.
