“What may have looked unbelievable turned out to be exactly that – and now those responsible are being held accountable,” said Ricardo Lara, the state insurance commissioner.
“Insurance fraud is a serious crime that drives up costs for consumers, and no scheme is too outrageous for us to investigate.”
A fourth suspect is scheduled to return to court in September for a preliminary hearing.
The January 2024 video of the attack on the Rolls-Royce in Lake Arrowhead, 60 miles from Los Angeles went viral on social media.
The other insurance claims were made for a 2015 Mercedes G63 AMG and a 2022 Mercedes E350 .
Lake Arrowhead is in the San Bernardino Mountains, where wild black bears – which can in fact be brown – can be found.
