The Fenton Community Orchestra (FCO) Summer Strings program recently received a $2,000 grant from the Fenton Community Fund, a division of the Community Fund of Greater Flint (CFGF).
The grant was also matched with support from the University of Michigan – Flint, Share Art Genesee, the Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC) and the National Endowment for Arts (NEA).
“This generous support allows the FCO to continue offering our annual summer programming, under the guidance of our excellent conductor and teacher Jane Ball,” said Operations Manager Eric Crimmins. “This gives our string players a chance to continue playing together over the summer alongside musicians who are new to the FCO family.”
The FCO would also like to thank Summer Strings sponsors James and Donna Sens, Simply Strings sponsor The State Bank, and Season 14 presenting sponsors The State Bank and Marathon Flint Oil Company.
Summer Strings is an offshoot of FCO’s Simply Strings Orchestra which meets during the regular September through April season. Conductor and string expert Jane Ball has served as the leader of Simply Strings since they joined the FCO program in 2016 and began Summer Strings in 2017. She also runs a monthly Saturday Strings program for beginning level musicians, as well as a cello choir and several cello quartets.
