In a meeting that may have set a record for brevity — less than 10 minutes — Linn County commissioners Roger Nyquist, Sherrie Sprenger and Will Tucker approved a short-term loan of up to $300,000 to the Fair Fund to manage cash flow if needed and pay bills until revenues generated by the fair are received.
The money will be borrowed from the General Road Fund.
Commissioner Nyquist, who also serves as a representative on the Fair Board, said this has been an accepted practice for several years. The county fair is held in mid-July and cash flow in and out of the Fair Fund takes place during several weeks and carries over through the start of a new county Fiscal Year on July 1.
Nyquist said the fair budget is about $705,000.
Nyquist said Linn County prides itself on operating without any outside long-term debt.
In other business, the commissioners noted there will be an Elected Officials meeting from 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Fair & Expo Center.
