Octopus Energy-backed item that ‘keeps cold out’ coming to Aldi for £1.99

Energy companies suggest items like this to help homes stay warm and reduce bills

Aldi shoppers could keep their homes feeling warmer for longer by investing in a small £2 kit to upgrade their windows and doors this autumn and winter. The easy-to-fit DIY tape could put an end to cold draughts slipping into homes this season.

The budget supermarket is bringing out a range of items this weekend (Sunday, October 18) designed to help Brits keep their homes warm and comfortable in the winter. These solutions are cheap to buy and easy to install without a professional – and could save money on energy bills, as mentioned by energy suppliers.

Describing the sets online, Aldi said: “Keep your home warmer and more comfortable with simple, easy-to-fit solutions designed to help reduce draughts, dust and heat loss. Ideal for windows [and] doors, these energy-saving essentials help improve insulation and keep the cold out.”

There are a variety of specific kits that improve the performance of home heating – from reflective radiator screens to ways that prevent draughts coming through windows and doors. One option offered is the Window and Door Seal.

The Workzone Window and Door Seal from Aldi is a self-adhesive draught excluder designed to block unwanted airflow around gaps in your home. The entire strip has a D-shaped cross-section, and this hollow centre allows the rubber foam to compress easily when a door or window closes, filling uneven gaps tightly without preventing the door or window from latching securely.

By creating an airtight seal, it prevents cold outdoor breezes from sneaking indoors and warm air from your heating from escaping outside. This should, in theory, allow homeowners to retain the warmth they pay for with central heating for longer.

The yellow strip peeled away in the image reveals a strong adhesive layer. This allows it to stick directly onto glass, wood, or uPVC window and door frames without needing extra tools, glue, or screws.

The supermarket is selling versions in white and black. Firms like Octopus Energy and British Gas claim that proper draught proofing should help homes reduce their gas use.

On Octopus Energy’s ‘energy efficiency tips’ webpage, the energy supplier says: “For gaps around the edges of doors, use self-adhesive draught proofing strips. Foam strips are the cheapest option (starting price of £4.50) but may not be long-lasting. Other options include plastic or metal draught proofing strips.”

The entire collection of items arrives in stores on Sunday, alongside other heating and home gadgets to make winter more comfortable. The SpecialBuy sale includes the return of the Ambiano Dehumidifier (£44.99) as well as two heating units (from £19.99).

People can view the full collection online here. The Sunday sale also includes a selection of warm clothing for men, women and children from £2.99.
