CALIFORNIA — California has the second-highest annual energy costs for home appliances in the country, according to a recent ranking from Cinch Home Services.
The home warranty experts analyzed data from Energy Star to learn the average energy use in kilowatt-hours per year for common appliances. Cinch Home Servies then calculated the total cost to run a washing machine, dryer, refrigerator with a bottom freezer, dishwasher and electric range in each state, using average electricity costs from the Environmental Investigation Agency.
The Golden State was No. 2 on the list and totaled $534.15 per year for home appliances, with an average electricity cost of 34.26 cents per kilowatt-hour, according to the ranking. Hawaii was first with an annual appliance energy price of $704.56 and Connecticut came in third with $461.18.
“Discovering the energy costs of running standard home appliances provides a valuable insight into household spends, perhaps inspiring you to manage your usage to save on bills,” a Cinch Home Services spokesperson said in a news release about the findings.
“Across all 50 states, a clothes dryer is the most expensive home appliance to run, costing households in the US an average of $107.91 a year, and the cheapest is the clothes washer at just $17.61.”
