SEBI and Google add a Verified label on Play Store trading apps to fight fake brokers, backed by SEBI CVV checks via Saa₹thi and UPI Valid verification.

New Safety Feature for Investors: SEBI’s Verified Label on Trading Apps
In a major step to safeguard retail investors, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has introduced a ‘Verified’ label for stock trading apps listed on the Google Play Store. The move, announced by SEBI Chairman, aims to tackle the rising threat of fraudulent apps impersonating legitimate brokers.
The surge in fake trading apps has become a serious concern in recent years. Fraudsters often mimic genuine platforms, misleading investors into believing their money is being invested in regulated markets. In reality, these funds are diverted, leading to significant financial losses.
By introducing the ‘Verified’ badge, SEBI is making it easier for users to identify authentic apps linked to registered intermediaries. This initiative is expected to enhance trust and transparency in the digital investment ecosystem.
Under this collaboration between SEBI and Google, stock trading apps associated with SEBI-registered entities will now carry a visible ‘Verified’ tag on the Play Store. This helps users quickly distinguish legitimate platforms from fake ones.
SEBI also indicated that this feature will soon be extended to other regulated intermediaries beyond stock brokers.
SEBI’s ‘CVV’ Safety Framework
To further protect investors, SEBI has urged users to follow its ‘CVV’ approach:
Check: Verify bank accounts using the “SEBI Check” feature on the Saa₹thi app
Validate: Ensure UPI IDs contain the word “Valid” via SEBI tools
Verify: Look for the ‘Verified’ label on trading apps
