YouTube has reportedly announced that its likeness-detection technology is being made available to eligible creators in the new program, allowing them to seek the removal of AI-generated content that features their likeness.

YouTube’s rollout of detection technology acknowledges and manages AI-generated content featuring the likeness of creators such as their face and voice.

The innovative feature is designed to discourage people from misusing a creator’s likeness to support products and services or to circulate information they have not agreed to.

To start the process, creators must navigate to the ‘Likeness’ tab and agree to data processing.

Creators must scan a QR code with their smartphone, which will take them to a web page for authentication. This verification requires a photo ID and a short selfie video.

Once YouTube grants access to the tool, creators can view all detected videos and submit a removal request in line with the company’s guidelines.

YouTube video creators can use this technology at any time, and the system will cease scanning for videos 24 hours after they opt out.

This likeness-detection technology has been in pilot mode; it initially involved a partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to assist creators in analyzing content on the platform that employs their AI-generated likeness.

The technology is part of YouTube’s commitment to responsible AI, and it is designed to tackle AI-generated replicas that protect individuals from harmful content.
