WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCSC)- A West Ashley church ministry held its first Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday afternoon.
Charleston First Assembly of God Church and its Salt Ministry had over 50 community members in attendance.
The Event Coordinator, Rose Marie Lawyer, says she felt called to put on this event with her team.
“People suffer and in need so when we can get a group of vendors to come and explain different things to them, they know how to take care of their bodies, their health and their wealth,” said Lawyer.
She said some people may not have access to health insurance or health care, so she wanted to provide a space for the community to learn more.
“In order to get this dream to be a reality, it took all of us together to pull together, and really got this off the ground, and made it a success,” said Lawyer.
There were about 15 vendors, providing free trials, goodie bags and other information about your physical, mental, spiritual and financial health.
One gentleman says he has his own health concerns he gets checked regularly, but wanted to learn more.
“So I didn’t see it being a crime for me to come out here today and participate in this event,” said attendee Lloyd Dawson.
He said his favorite vender was MUSC, learning about glucose levels and blood pressure.
“They ask me three things and I got two out of three things right so I told them I’d be back in a minute to see if I can conquer the third object,” said Dawson.
Lawyer said she wanted this to be an opportunity for the Lowcountry to learn how to improve their wellness.
“Any area every area you know we want to help we want to be a help to the community. It’s like an out reach and we are reaching out to help,” said Lawyer.
She also says she looks forward to next year’s event being even bigger and greater.
