Where is M&A in the advisory industry heading?
John Orsini, director of investment banking at MarshBerry, highlights that acquirers are increasingly focused on sustained organic growth and a firm’s positioning for future growth within evolving operating models, beyond factors like geography or talent.
He explains that advisors should keep enterprise value in view by investing in marketing, building a second generation of leadership with equity incentives, and maintaining double-digit organic growth to support stronger valuation multiples.
Many owners fail to plan ahead despite working in a planning-based profession, and he encourages creating a multi-year plan and considering transaction readiness two to three years in advance, especially for advisors nearing retirement.
