Anthropic Launches Personal Finance In Claude To Connect Bank Accounts And Analyze Spending

The feature is currently available in beta to eligible Claude Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the United States. It is being introduced gradually across Claude’s web application, desktop software, and mobile apps for iOS and Android.

Personal Finance is not available to users on Claude’s Free, Team, or Enterprise plans.

The launch represents an expansion of Claude’s capabilities into personal financial management, allowing users to analyze information from their own financial accounts through natural-language conversations.

Rather than manually reviewing transactions across different banking applications, users can ask Claude questions about their spending and financial activity.

For example, customers can ask how much they spent during the previous month, identify recurring subscription payments, or examine patterns across their connected accounts.

The Personal Finance dashboard includes customizable widgets showing spending, cash flow, account balances, subscriptions, upcoming bills, and AI-generated financial insights.

Users can add, remove, edit, and rearrange these widgets to create a personalized overview of their finances.

To connect financial accounts, customers authorize access through Plaid, a financial data connectivity platform that allows applications to retrieve account information from participating institutions.

Plaid handles the bank authentication process, meaning users do not provide their banking passwords directly to Claude.

Customers can connect up to 16 banks and choose which accounts they want to share.

For authorized accounts, Claude can access bank and account names, account types, balances, credit limits, and up to 24 months of transaction history.

Transaction details may include purchase amounts, dates, merchant names, spending categories, and descriptions provided by financial institutions.

Although the feature supports connections to investment, loan, and credit card accounts, its access to these products is currently limited.

Claude can retrieve balances and credit limits but cannot read individual investment holdings, trades, loan interest rates, or contractual terms.

The service is also read-only and cannot transfer money, manage accounts, execute investments, or initiate financial transactions.

Anthropic has incorporated privacy controls designed to give users greater visibility into how their financial data is accessed and used.

Conversations conducted within the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Claude’s AI models.

Financial information shared outside the hub is subject to the user’s applicable privacy settings.

Customers can also disable Plaid access for regular conversations and unlink financial institutions when they no longer want Claude to retrieve their account information.

Anthropic notes that financial information may not always be current. Account balances can be one or two days old, while some transactions may require additional time to synchronize.

The company also cautions that AI-generated financial analyses may contain mistakes and recommends checking important figures against original bank records.

Personal Finance is intended to help users understand their financial activity rather than provide investment advice.

Additional limitations include support for U.S. banks only and restrictions preventing linked financial account data from being used in scheduled tasks, Claude Cowork, and Claude Code.

The introduction of Personal Finance reflects the growing use of AI assistants for everyday financial analysis and decision support.

By integrating banking information with conversational AI, Anthropic is extending Claude beyond general-purpose assistance into a more personalized financial management experience.

The company is positioning the service as a way for consumers to consolidate financial information, identify spending patterns, and better understand their overall financial position without switching between multiple financial applications.

As the beta rollout expands, Anthropic plans to make Personal Finance available to additional eligible U.S. subscribers across its supported platforms.
