What it asks: Shall the town of Mead taxes be increased not more than $2,000,000 (two million dollars) annually in the first fiscal year of collections (2025) and by whatever amounts are raised annually thereafter by an additional sales and use tax of one percent (1%) (or an increase of approximately 10 cents per 10 dollars spent), commencing January 1, 2025, to fund public safety, including: Additional police officers and equipment; additional school resource officers; police/public safety facilities; increased community policing.
and shall the tax revenues collected:
be retained in a segregated account separate from all other town finanial accounts and be used only to pay for public safety in the town of Mead and never be transferred into the town general fund or used for any purpose other than public safety, with all tax revenues and investment earnings thereon to be collected, retained and spent as a voter-approved revenue change pursuant to Article X, Section 20 of the Colorado Constitution?
What it means: If approved, the local sales and use tax rate would be raised from 3% to 4% with the additional revenue dedicated exclusively to public safety to hire additional police officers, acquire new equipment, add more school resource officers, expand police and public safety facilities and increase community policing efforts.
What supporters say: This tax increase is necessary to better support local law enforcement and keep the community safe.
What opponents say: With goods and services already being so expensive for residents, now is not the right time to raise taxes.
