Tuesday deadline nears for Arkansas property taxes

It’s that time of year — property taxes are coming due.

Property taxes are due Tuesday, and they’re due every year on Oct. 15. They can be paid multiple ways, depending on the county — in person, via county drop boxes, online or by mail — so long as it’s postmarked by the end of the day on Oct. 15.

To find out how to pay in a specific county, residents can visit the Department of Finance and Administration’s website, and then click the “Property Tax Payments” button.

Taxes that aren’t paid in time incur a 10% late fee, along with interest for residents that own real estate.

If those taxes aren’t paid within a year, that real estate is then forfeited to the state.

Tax bills were first sent out in March, which are based on tax calculations made by the county assessors office. However, for real estate owners, the bill is often lower due to the homestead tax credit, which takes several hundred dollars off property tax bills.
