KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – Police officers in Kansas City, Kansas, located thousands of dollars in stolen property and took a suspect into custody following a burglary at a local church last week.
The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department said a tip helped them locate a suspect around 10:30 a.m. Monday. The tip was in response to an overnight burglary that was discovered by staff at Forest Grove Baptist Church on Friday, Oct. 11.
Church staff discovered that approximately $36,000 worth of musical instruments, electronics, maintenance equipment, clothing and health products were stolen — and approximately $500 worth of property damage was done to the church building.
KCK police said officers responded to a home in the 800 block of Walker Avenue where several of the stolen items were found outside the home. The KCKPD Special Operations Unit was deployed to the scene because it was believed the suspect was inside the home and armed.
Police said at 2:04 p.m. the suspect exited the home and was detained without incident.
A search warrant allowed officers inside the home, where more items from the church were positively identified and returned to the church located on N. 9th Street.
Anyone with more information on the case is asked to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
