The Larimer County Assessor’s Office has completed a review of all properties within the county damaged by the Alexander Mountain Fire, finding 51 damaged or lost.
Property owners that experienced property damage as a result of the fire could see reduced property tax valuations and therefore lower tax bills as they recover, County Assessor Bob Overbeck said in a press release Thursday.
“In the months ahead, my office will continue to study damages in the Alexander Fire burn scar for any valuation adjustments on impacted properties,” Overbeck said in the release. “We’ll also be there to assist homeowners while they rebuild.”
Property tax credits are available through state programs to help homeowners recover from natural disasters like wildfires, Overbeck added.
Additionally, he encouraged property owners who have moved or relocated after being impacted by the wildfire to update their address with the assessor’s office to ensure they are properly notified of any valuation changes on their property and other information they receive from the county.
