Let crop insurance agent know about silage plans

A product analyst with Country Financial says farmers planning to chop corn silage need to first have a conversation with their crop insurance agent.

Brian Davis tells Brownfield…

“Farmers who are going to chop silage, call your agent and get that notification sent to them.”  He says, “Especially if you’re only going to chop a few acres.  That is easily overlooked and that causes some trouble if you’re harvesting and turn in another claim.”

He says the possibility of revenue claims this year make the notification even more important.

“Let’s say you’ve got a 100-acre field, and you chop 10 acres.”  He says, “Let’s say you’ve got a revenue claim. They’re going to look at that and realize, wait a minute, we’ve got some acres here that don’t look quite right and that is really going to cause a pickle in getting that claim properly adjusted and paid.”

Davis says silage yield estimates generated by the adjuster also allow for comparisons against the field’s final production totals.
