Insurance commissioner discusses state’s high rates

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple was in town Thursday to discuss Louisiana’s high insurance rates.

Temple attended a luncheon held by the Republican Women of Southwest Louisiana.

Temple says the solution to getting better insurance rates starts with identifying issues that prevent insurance companies from doing business in Louisiana.

“Why are insurance companies choosing either not to do business in Louisiana, which reduces competition, which reduces choice – and the ones that are, why are they charging the rates that they are? So, we’re going to dive down,” said Temple. “We’re looking at those issues. We’re looking at what those cost drivers are and then we’re going to bring solutions to address it so that you and I, and everybody else in Louisiana, all the businesses can get back to spending less money on insurance and more money on themselves and expanding their business.

Temple will be back in town next week for the Lake Charles Resiliency Summit on Aug. 27.
