VP Kamala Harris on Cape Cod for fund-raiser as speculation about Biden continues

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to address a crowd of more than 800 at a fund-raiser on Cape Cod on Saturday afternoon, according to published reports.

The appearance at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum comes as speculation continues to swirl about the future of President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign.

Harris, who has been mentioned as a replacement at the top of the Democratic ticket if Biden exits the race, touched down on the Cape shortly before 12 p.m., News25 in Boston reported, citing pool reports.

Biden, who was diagnosed with COVID earlier this week, has said he plans to return to the campaign trail in the coming days. He has insisted he will remain in the race against former President Donald Trump, even as calls for his exit have become louder in some Democratic circles.

On Saturday, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., underlined her support for Biden, but said Harris is ready to step up if the 81-year-old chief executive exits the race.

“Joe Biden is our nominee,” Warren told MSNBC’s “The Weekend” program, adding that Biden has a “big decision to make” about his political future.

“But what gives me a lot of hope right now is that if President Biden decides to step back, we have Vice President Kamala Harris, who is ready to step up to unite the party, to take on Donald Trump, and to win in November,” Warren said.
