OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance is in Omaha for a Republican fund-raiser.
Former President Trump’s running mate is making an appearance in the Cornhusker State on Wednesday evening to attend a Nebraska Republican Party fundraiser hosted by GOP Sen. Pete Ricketts and his family.
His plane was due to land around 5 p.m. Wednesday after a campaign stop in North Carolina.
Vance’s visit to Nebraska’s “blue dot” comes days after his counterpart, Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz made a campaign stop in La Vista. Vice President Kamala Harris chose Walz — a Nebraska native — to be her running mate earlier this month.
While in Nebraska, Walz talked about Vance’s appeal to Midwest voters, saying: “Folks in the heartland and in Nebraska and in Minnesota, we don’t need a Yale-educated philosophy major backed by billionaire venture capitalists to tell us who we are.”
Vance and Walz are expected to meet in Oct. 1 for a vice presidential debate.
Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional district — representing one of the state’s five electoral votes — flipped to Democratic in recent elections.
In 2008, it went to Barack Obama. In 2012, it flipped back to Republican candiate Mitt Romney, and Donald Trump kept it as well in 2016. Then in 2020, it went to Joe Biden.
