The City of Glenwood Springs announced it will be hosting four “Make it Make Cents” informational meetings in July to teach residents about the city’s infrastructure fund, including how and where funds are spent.
The Glenwood Springs Infrastructure Fund is used for street and alley repairs, maintenance and reconstruction. Approved by voters in 2006, the funding comes from a 0.5% sales tax (half-a-cent on each dollar spent on goods) dedicated toward streets and related infrastructure, generating approximately $3.8 million each year, according to a city news release.
The final two informational meetings will be taking during the next two weeks at the following times:
- 6-7:30 p.m. July 15 at the Community Center. Refreshments will be provided.
- Noon-1:30 p.m. July 23 as a Zoom webinar, with Spanish interpretation available.
The July 23 webinar will be streamed live on Facebook, recorded and shared online at cogs.us/Roads. Each meeting will provide the same presentation, so residents may attend whichever session is most convenient, according to a city news release.
Attendees are encouraged to ask questions during the meetings. To encourage participation, three door prizes will be offered at each in-person session.
“Improving and maintaining our streets and infrastructure is always a top concern voiced by residents and this is a fantastic opportunity to get the details on how the city spends the half-cent sales tax and preview future projects,” Public Information Officer Bryana Starbuck said in the release. “Understanding financing for public works can be complex to follow. Our aim is to ‘make it make sense’ by breaking down budgets to their most essential pieces and inviting residents to ask questions directly about projects or even specific streets.”
