VALLEY CITY, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The Valley City Public School District has set up a fund to help several students and a staff member who were involved in a devastating apartment complex fire on Wednesday.
The Valley City Fire Department was called just after 12:35 a.m. on October, 23, to an apartment at 215 6th Avenue Southwest after reports of heavy smoke and fire coming from the building.
Several people were trapped inside. Fire crews say 7 people were rescued from various apartment windows and others jumped out to escape. One person died in the fire and the Valley City Police Department is investigating.
Valley City School District says four students and one employee were affected by the fire. Two families are displaced from their apartments and are temporarily living in a hotel or with family members.
“In addition to providing counseling services for the students, we would like to send out an opportunity for our school and community to offer financial support for the two families that will be incurring unexpected costs for laundry, hotels, personal belongings, and food,” the school district wrote.
If you would like to make a financial contribution, checks or cash may be dropped off at the district office at 460 Central Avenue North in Valley City.
