CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. (KKTV) – As a woman remains hospitalized in critical condition following a brutal attack earlier this month, her dog, who survived the same vicious assault, continues to be cared for by the county.
The Teller County Regional Animal Shelter (TCRAS) has set up a fund in support of Ida.
Ida and owner Briena Karlik were attacked in a home outside Cripple Creek early on the morning of Aug. 7. Karlik, 35, “was left to die, unable to breathe and with a significant head injury,” mother Corinne Williams said in a statement shared by the Teller County Sheriff’s Office.
“Brie’s dog, Ida, was also viciously attacked while trying to protect Brie,” Williams said.
Ida suffered a skull fracture and had to have her eye removed due to the severity of the assault but is recovering well. She remains in the county animal shelter, but Williams says she hopes someone is willing to let her into their home for now.
“Brie’s dog, Ida, is recovering. If you can find it in your heart to donate food, blankets, dog toys, etc., or provide a safe foster home for Ida, please call Teller County Animal Control at 719-686-7707 to find out how you can help,” Williams said.
TCRAS has established a “care and support fund” for Ida.
“Ida is recovering from a brutal attack she and her owner received on August 7, 2024. This fund is for the care and support of Ida while she is being cared for and recovering. All funds will go to Ida until she is no longer in our care. Any excess funds raised will go to the medical care of other animals that come to TCRAS for care,” the summary reads.
