As parts of East Tennessee continue the long road to recovery from Hurricane Helene, one Dickson group is focusing its assistance efforts on a lesser-known segment of Helene’s victims – those struggling with addiction and those in recovery.

The Freeman Recovery Center, a comprehensive addiction recovery treatment center, has launched the Hope After Helene – Recovery Relief Fund and will match up to $25,000 in donations. Funds raised by Freeman Recovery Project will go directly to providing hope to those in recovery treatment.

“What we recognized is that tragedies like Helene can be really hard for those in recovery, particularly early recovery. The one thing we need to protect our sobriety is hope,” said April Landry, a Brand Ambassador for Freeman Recovery Center. “That’s why we’ve been trying to step in and provide support to clients and staff who have been affected by this hurricane.”

Landry said the funds raised will be used for those in recovery, or those providing service to those in recovery. Treatment centers and sober living homes are examples of the facilities Freeman Recovery is looking to assist.

“We want to provide the financial assistance to recovery centers, to make sure their basic needs that have been taken from them right now are available,” Landry said.

Landry said treatment centers in East Tennessee that she had spoken with are facing a number of unique challenges.

“There’s a need for mental health first aid when people are facing a crisis. That can include psychological first aid for those wondering, ‘What do I do next? What are the first steps here?’

“Community matters. We’re here to help restore hope; it’s part of our mission,” Landry said.To make a donation to the relief fund, visit www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/ce2f0b72-3f8f-4177-8f2c-14d19405bf9d. For more information on the fund, visit freemanrecoveryproject.org/hurricane-relief/.
