Brighton Dome and Worthing Borough Council will share in the £130 million national cultural fund, which is being delivered by Arts Council England to help improve accessibility to arts and culture and provide welcoming and affordable spaces for local communities to visit.
The Brighton arts venue will receive £468,701, while the council has been awarded £371,278.
A spokesperson for Brighton Dome and Brighton Festival (BDBF) said: “We are delighted that we have been awarded funds from the Creative Foundations Fund from Arts Council England.
“We are grateful that these funds will allow us to carry out some important work to our much loved home.
“Following the successful redevelopment of the historic Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre, BDBF is prioritising essential upgrades to the 1,800‑seat Concert Hall, last refurbished 25 years ago.
“This first‑phase project has been funded to focus on modernising production lighting and sound, renewing IT network infrastructure, upgrading assisted listening systems, and improving ventilation to enhance sustainability, accessibility, and our long‑term operational viability.”
Brighton Dome is a Grade 1 and 2 listed landmark within the Royal Pavilion estate, consisting of three key performance venues with year‑round cultural programming.
The venue is central to the Brighton Festival, which will be held in May.
The Sussex allocations have been drawn from the Creative Foundations Fund, a £96 million pot supporting 74 arts and cultural venues across the country.
It forms part of the broader Arts Everywhere Fund, created by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to protect and preserve regional heritage buildings.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said: “Across the country, people take real pride in where they come from.
“Our local arts, museums and libraries are a big part of that, telling our stories, reflecting who we are, and bringing communities together.
“That’s why our Arts Everywhere Fund matters. We’re backing the places people care about most, with support for 130 venues across the country announced today.”
Nationally, the full £127.8 million package includes £25.5 million for museum maintenance and £6.3 million to upgrade library technology.
The largest single grant is going to London’s Southbank Centre, which has been allocated £10 million.
