The recent UK heatwave affected 99% of energy projects, with nearly two-thirds of project professionals reporting significant disruption, new research has found.
A survey of 1,008 UK-based project professionals by the Association for Project Management (APM) found that extreme temperatures affected programmes through changes to working hours, postponements and reduced productivity.
Across all sectors surveyed, 96% said their main project had been affected by the heatwave, while 64% described the impact as significant.
Among this, 30% of energy professionals said that working hours had changed, while 26% reported projects being postponed or temporarily paused.
A further 22% cited reduced productivity or revised deadlines.
The findings have raised concerns over the ability of infrastructure and energy projects to withstand increasingly frequent extreme weather.
APM say climate resilience should be incorporated into project budgets, risk assessments, workforce planning and delivery schedules rather than treated as a future consideration.
