WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) alerted Kansas power companies Monday that current grid conditions could lead to an energy deficiency.
The SPP issued an Energy Emergency Alert Level 1 (EEA-1) stating that there is “enough power to load requirements but not enough backup resources.”
While consumers have not been asked to conserve energy at this time, the Sunflower Electric Power Corporation said “extreme hot temperatures and other weather events can create further strain on the electric grid causing SPP to call for energy conservation across its 14-state footprint.”
The SPP is a regional transmission organization and regulatory authority that oversees the regional electric grid.
