People in the spa town are still without access to routine NHS dentistry, after services ended last December following the suspension of a dental practitioner.
NHS patients in Llandrindod currently have no general dental service, and the health board has confirmed there are still no providers in place.
The board is currently inviting bids from qualified providers to deliver NHS general dental services in the town through an open tender process.
A spokesman for Powys Teaching Health Board said: “We are taking action to address this.
“This includes advertising the opportunity for suitably qualified providers to bid to provide NHS general dental services in the town.
“This is the normal process for advertising NHS general dental services contracts.
“It is an open market tender process, with all bids assess through fair and equitable appraisal.
“We will share further updates when a contract is awarded and a new provider is in place.”
Bids are invited by Monday, July 13. Patients are encouraged to join the NHS dental access portal to be allocated a place with a dentist when one becomes available.
The Imperial Dental Group opened this week, on Wednesday, July 1, taking over the former Little Owl surgery, located at the Old Town Hall, after announcing the move last month.
The new operators are hopeful of securing NHS provision – although they say this could take up to six months.
The Imperial Dental Group confirmed that it is “actively communicating” to offer NHS dental services in the spa town, although this will take time.
It added that, for now, the Imperial Dental Group Little Owl practice will continue to provide dental care with “fees kept as affordable as possible”.
PTHB said on December 22, 2025, that the Interim Orders Committee of the General Dental Council had suspended Dr Sami Aouant, of AKS Dental Ltd, which formerly traded as Little Owl Dental in Llandrindod.
As a result of the suspension, PTHB stated it had no option but to terminate the contract for NHS dental services in Llandrindod with immediate effect.
Those without internet access can call the Powys NHS dental access line on 01686 252 808. Priority is given to children on the waiting list.
Existing patients should contact their dental practice directly for emergency care.
Anyone not currently registered with a dentist should visit the NHS 111 Wales website for more information.
The health board has asked for the public’s patience, consideration and respect for the team on the Powys NHS dental access line as it works to restore dental services.
