Eastleigh council tax bills could increase by 2.4% in 26/27

Councillors are set to consider a proposed 2.4 per cent increase in the authority’s share of council tax. If approved, the Band D borough element would be set at £123.35, a rise of £2.89 for the year.

In addition to the borough council’s charge, council tax includes precepts from Hampshire County Council, as well as contributions towards police, fire and parish councils.

The draft budget proposals also include a 4.8 per cent rise in rents for council-owned social, temporary and affordable housing — a move likely to affect hundreds of local tenants.

The spending plans will be debated at a Cabinet meeting on February 19, where councillors will decide whether to back the recommended increases as part of the authority’s financial strategy for the year ahead.

Final decision will be made by full council on February 26.
