The International Energy Agency (IEA) warns that global energy efficiency gains remain below levels needed to meet international climate goals. Progress is expected to rise to 1.8% in 2025, but the world is still off track to double gains by 2030.

“There’s a real opportunity to accelerate progress,” said Lucas Boehlé, Energy Efficiency Analyst at the IEA.

Industry remains a major challenge, while policy implementation lags behind available technologies. Boehlé described energy efficiency as the “first fuel”, highlighting its role in improving affordability, competitiveness and energy security if governments raise ambition within existing policies.
