Biden threatens vetoes for energy, enviro spending bills

The White House on Monday threatened to veto four House spending bills, including those funding EPA and the departments of Energy, the Interior and Agriculture.

In statements of administration policy, the Office of Management and Budget said President Joe Biden would veto the four appropriations bills that House Republicans had planned to put on the floor this week: Interior-Environment, Energy-Water, Agriculture and Financial Services.

POLITICO reported Monday that House leaders had pulled the Agriculture and Financial Services titles over concerns that they wouldn’t be able to pass in the narrowly divided chamber.

All four bills propose steep cuts to federal climate and clean energy programs. The Rules Committee is meeting Monday afternoon to consider scores of amendments that lawmakers have proposed for each of the bills, many of them seeking further cuts.
