The Tax Administration (TA) collected over 700.000 euros in fines during the summer tourist season, it was announced from the TA.
As announced, in the period from May 1 to August 4, 2024, tax inspectors performed 2.317 regularity checks of taxpayers’ operations and found irregularities in 322 taxpayers.
“On this basis, 437 misdemeanor orders were issued, with fines in the amount of EUR 1.460.400. The debt due to imposed fines amounts to EUR 852.793, of which EUR 700.093 or 82 percent has been collected. Collection based on fines, relations on taxpayers who accepted misdemeanor responsibility and paid the imposed fines within 8 days, 249 of them (reduced by a third according to the Law on Misdemeanors),” the announcement reads.
The PU added that in the reporting period, 17 taxpayers were ordered to temporarily ban their activities.
“Identified irregularities relate to the non-recording of the turnover of goods and services in the manner prescribed by law, non-payment of the market in an amount that exceeds the cashier’s maximum, non-reporting of employees and carrying out activities without general tax registration. The Tax Administration continuously monitors the regularity of the business of taxpayers, as well as controls of comprehensive bookkeeping as well as checks of certain segments of their business”, it is stated.
“The tax inspectors apply the prescribed punitive measures for all taxpayers who are found to be operating irregularly, from the issuing of misdemeanor orders to the temporary ban on activities and the closing of facilities,” the announcement concludes.
