Tesco issues ‘health risk’ warning over popular store item

The supermarket is offering refunds for a particular salad

Tesco has issued a recall for one of its popular items, warning that it “may pose a health risk” to certain individuals. The supermarket giant is offering refunds for its Tesco Celery and Nut Salad, 300g, due to the presence of mustard in the mayonnaise component of the product.

The alert pertains to products with a use-by date of December 2. Recall notices displayed in stores further state: “Mustard [is] not mentioned on the product label, which may pose a health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to mustard.”

Customers who have purchased the affected product and have an allergy or intolerance to mustard are encouraged to return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required.

When a food item is recalled, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) also issues a notice. A spokesperson for the FSA stated: “Tesco is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.”, reports the Mirror.

Tesco has confirmed that no other products are affected by this recall, and has apologised for any inconvenience caused.
