Explaining further, the doctor explains “the neurotransmitter functions as an essential component which enables us to complete important activities which include studying and forming social connections.”

“Dopamine functions as a natural brain chemical which the body produces to maintain essential brain activities. The body cannot eliminate dopamine through short-term drug withdrawal which does not provide any mechanism for body reset,” says the expert.

The term dopamine detoxing creates confusion, yet its actual purpose does have valid aspects.

“Modern people face a constant stream of high-stimulation activities, which destroy their ability to maintain attention and their capacity to handle uninteresting situations,” states Dr Paul.

According to him, people who receive constant access to immediate rewards will find it difficult to complete activities that need them to work for extended periods, which includes reading and deep work.

“Stopping gratification from excessive sensory input enables people to achieve personal equilibrium. People can enhance their ability to concentrate, their sleeping patterns, and their capacity to handle emotions through decreasing screen usage, restricting social media access, and establishing times without technology,” he adds.

The viral trends should not be used by people who have ongoing mental health problems to guide their treatment because they should seek professional help.
