The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an allergy alert over the item many Brits will tuck into for their tea
Aldi is pulling a popular dinner item from its shelves after discovering it could pose a serious health risk to certain customers.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) announced on Saturday, October 18 that the budget supermarket had issued an urgent recall after finding some of its steaks contained an ingredient not listed on the packaging.
The Ashfields 30 Day Matured Thin Cut Beef Steaks contains milk, but this allergen isn’t mentioned on the wrapper.
The FSA explained: “This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. This is due to a packaging error.”
The affected packs weigh 360g and have a use-by date of October 26, 2025, reports the Mirror.
The FSA continued: “Aldi is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
“For more information, please visit https://help.aldi.co.uk/s/ or call customer services on 0800 042 0800.”
The FSA explained more on food alerts for those who aren’t familiar with them and might be alarmed.
A spokesperson clarified: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
It comes after Aldi announced a new initiative to make it “easier than ever” for customers to opt for healthier food choices. This comes in the form of the chain introducing its ‘Live Healthy’ logo in all UK stores from next week.
The “clear and simple” emblem will be featured on selected own-brand products, including fresh produce, soups, and yoghurts.
Every product with the logo meets strict nutritional criteria, providing shoppers with added assurance when selecting items for their shopping baskets.
This move follows the Government’s announcement of a new 10-year health strategy. Aldi has responded by committing to several actions aimed at helping customers make healthier choices.
