KANSAS CITY, MO — Detroit Tigers assistant general manager Jay Sartori is leaving the front office after the 2025 season. He has taken a new job with the ACC as the vice president of sport technology and innovation.
Sartori has been employed by the Tigers since November 2015.

“Bittersweet news, obviously, for the Tigers,” general manager Jeff Greenberg said Friday, Aug. 29, sharing the news of Sartori’s departure. “We’re going to miss him quite a bit. He’s done a lot in this organization over the last 10 years.”

In his role, Sartori oversaw the baseball analytics, research and development, performance science, advance scouting, data operations and software engineering teams. He also contributed to all aspects of baseball operations, including player personnel decisions, roster management, strategy analysis, contract negotiations, rules and administration.

Sartori developed “Caesar,” which became the Tigers’ internal software system in 2017.
“His contributions are significant,” Greenberg said. “His work ethic, his work products, a great teammate. He’s made the organization better. He’s made those around him better.”

In August 2021, Al Avila — then the Tigers’ general manager — promoted Sartori from senior director of baseball analytics to assistant general manager. Since September 2022, Sartori has reported to president of baseball operations Scott Harris, whom the Tigers hired after firing Avila.
