The Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs warns homeowners to beware of scam websites offering county property tax information.

Official property tax estimates from Cuyahoga County are available — for free — at the official county site, cuyahogacounty.gov/taxestimator, according to a news release.

Visit cuyahogacounty.gov to find official property records and instructions for paying property taxes.

Consumer Affairs is aware of multiple scam sites that sell property information that is available free through county websites.

One site encourages people to download unknown software, which potentially could install malware on their computers or phones, the release said. Other sites charge recurring monthly fees to receive a property tax information.

Official Cuyahoga County web addresses start with “cuyahogacounty.gov.”

“Roughly, 10 percent of the scams reported to us begin when someone mistypes a web address or performs an internet search that leads them to a scam site,” said Sheryl Harris, director of the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs, in the release. “If you navigate to a suspicious site, do not download software or click on pop-ups or links.”
