The Dhaka Stock Exchange on Monday sought cooperation and suggestions from stockbrokers for the market development.
In a meeting with representatives of top 30 brokerage houses on the day, the DSE said that the market was passing through an unusual period, and the brokerage houses had a lot of responsibility to build a dynamic market.
The stockbrokers discussed a number of things, including the current market situation, restoring investors’ confidence, liquidity crisis, capital gains tax, facilitating cash withdrawals, and financial reporting systems.
DSE chairman Mominul Islam said that the capital market was on a weak foundation as a result of many wrong decisions, irregularities and inefficiencies. ‘Making the capital market efficient, transparent and beneficial to the economy requires long-term structural changes, investigations and prosecutions of irregularities and corruption,’ he said.
Saiful Islam, president of the DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh, said that although Central Counterparty Bangladesh Limited was formed in 2018, it could not start its activities till now.
