Sustainability in Property 2025

Energy efficient homes are the future

Domain’s purpose is to inspire confidence in property decisions, and an evolving and increasing consideration Australians are factoring in when searching for a home is how energy efficient it is. The desire for lower running costs, increased home comfort, and a preference for minimising environmental impact is shaping how we value and choose a property.

In this year’s Sustainability in Property Report, we explore how energy-efficient homes (or EE homes) are shaping the property market. These features aren’t just good for the planet; they’re delivering real benefits for buyers, sellers and communities.

So what’s driving the shift? Our latest findings reveal:

  • Energy efficiency is becoming mainstream, with over half of all houses sold in 2025 featuring EE elements.
  • Homes with EE features attract more buyer attention and often sell for more.
  • Middle-income households are driving adoption.
  • Solar remains the most common feature, found in nearly 38% of houses sold.

Read our Sustainability in Property Report to uncover the data behind the shift and see how energy-efficient homes are reshaping demand, value, and expectations across the country.
