Leeds-headquartered insurance broking and risk management business, JMG Group, has acquired specialist education-focused health and safety consultancy SafeSchool, strengthening its Risk Support Services (RSS) business.

The acquisition extends JMG’s capacity to deliver comprehensive compliance and risk solutions across multiple sectors, while supporting SafeSchool’s continued growth across the UK.

SafeSchool was founded in 2019 by Wirral-based former local authority health and safety professionals, Jeanne Fairbrother and Neil Thomas.

The business now supports more than 200 educational establishments ranging from nurseries to colleges across the North West, Birmingham and Bristol.

The company has been acquired by Risk Support Services (RSS), the risk management and consultancy division of Butterworth Spengler, part of JMG Group.

SafeSchool will continue to operate under its existing name, with its five-strong team remaining the first point of contact for its clients.

SafeSchool’s colleagues are all former public sector practitioners, including IOSH professionals, with experience spanning education, compliance and facilities management.

The consultancy provides proactive safety support through compliance audits, staff training, webinars official safety documentation and support around emerging requirements such as lockdown planning under Martyn’s Law.

Jeanne Fairbrother, SafeSchool co-founder, said: “Demand for specialist support in education continues to grow and we had reached the point where investment, added capacity and the backing of a larger organisation was required to support this demand.

“Joining RSS and JMG Group gives us that, without changing the personal, relationship-led service our clients rely on.

“They will see continuity day-to-day, with the added benefit of the wider expertise and services now available through Risk Support Services.”

Jake Fox, JMG Group CEO (MGA, Wholesale and Speciality), added: “SafeSchool brings outstanding expertise in education-focused health and safety consultancy and we’re pleased to welcome the team into the group.

“Through RSS, they gain access to resources and infrastructure and a broad range of compliance services – from fire, legionella and asbestos risk assessments to enhanced training – creating opportunities for clients and for collaboration across the group.”
