The 2024 Wyoming Women’s Foundation All-Women Pronghorn Hunt was held Oct. 10-13 at the Ranch at Ucross. One event that drew many quality donations and many bidders is the annual fundraising auction.
Alex Shannon, Communications & Events Coordinator, talked about how a portion of the funds raised will be used.
“We’ll be working to wrap up fundraisers over the next week weeks and are anticipating a great return,” Shannon said. “To show our appreciation to our generous landowners and neighbors in Buffalo, Sheridan, and the surrounding towns (none of which have been spared the stress and loss from the fires this year), we will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Wyoming Ranchers Fire Relief Fund.”
She gave a breakdown of the 2024 Pronghorn hunt. The hunt was joined by 46 hunters representing 17 states; 37 hunters harvested an animal, and 19 hunters harvested for the very first time. She said that 26 out of the 37 animals were harvested with just one shot. She added that 11 hunters donated their full harvests, and several others donated partial amounts.
“This year, the First Lady will be covering the full cost of processing donations! (donors paid a portion before).” Shannon added.
WYWF’s mission is investing in the economic self-sufficiency of women. Teaching women to hunt can help them feed their families nutritious food and fulfills WYWF’s mission.
The hunt emphasizes hunter safety, hunting and land ethics, and the conservation and the proper management of wild natural resources, for an enjoyable experience for participants, guides, and landowner(s). In keeping with this mission, eight hunters this year learned more about self-sufficiency, by processing their harvests themselves with the help of experienced volunteers.
