Solano County will continue to asses a fee to the Green Valley Open Space Maintenance District properties on county land for the continued upkeep of open space in that area, as decided by a 5-0 vote of the board on Tuesday.
Solano County Principal Planner Matt Walsh explained the annual agreement, crafted in 1990 by the supervisors, land trust and the City of Fairfield, which assesses a small fee to each house in the area to pay for the maintenance of the open space, owned by the Solano Land Trust.
“The Solano Land Trust is obviously integral in this whole program,” he said.
The supervisors also passed a resolution naming August as Child Support Awareness Month. Submitted by Supervisor Hannigan, the resolution notes the importance of involved parenting in every facet of a child’s life and lauds the county employees involved in that process.
“Child Support Awareness Month celebrates the key role parental emotional and financial support plays in the well-being of our children, our most precious resource, helping them become healthy, productive, and well-adjusted adults,” the resolution reads.
Financial support is very important for the stability of a child as they grow up, the resolution explains, and this year’s theme for the month is “Shelter. Safety. Solutions. Support.”
“During Child Support Awareness Month, it is important to ensure that every family, in all their diverse shapes and sizes, has the resources to provide shelter and safety to their kids.” the resolution reads. “The Department of Child Support Services is here to provide the solutions and support to help make that happen.”
Reyna Sandoval-Beverly said her organization, the Solano County Family Justice Centers, is one of five support centers within Solano and Contra Costa counties aimed at helping struggling families. The organization partners with the Department of Child Support Services in Solano County, she said, and she expressed thanks to the board for passing the resolution.
“Thank you for this support,” she said. thank you for all of the work and the partnership on behalf of all of our teams.”
