As the morning dew still clung to blades of grass and the car windshield, many gathered for the week’s supervisors’ meeting. The Tama County Engineer, Ben Daleske, kicked off the main part of the meeting like always with his report talking about how Iowa Bridge and Culvert is working on F Avenue. The replacement of the wooden deck on 275th is still being worked on, and spray patching is also being done.
Marty Wymore spoke to the supervisors as a representative of Region 6 Resource Partners about the housing trust fund contribution resolution. Approximately $400,000 from the fund has been spent in Tama County in the past nine years, and it is mainly used to preserve existing homes. Some of it is put aside for help after natural disasters I.E. tornadoes or derechos. A local match of approximately $20,000 from the county was approved.
Members and representatives of the EMS Essential Service Advisory Council to recommend a tax levy amount for the November election. After a brief explanation about how every local EMS service is in debt and will continue to be in debt, and how volunteers are few and far between, the council recommended $0.75 per thousand. The supervisors agreed with this, and next up is for a resolution on the proposed tax levy to pass, which will put it on the November ballot.
The supervisors approved creating a compensation board. Members for the board will be picked and recommended from different branches of the Tama County government.
