Reading Borough Council has opened applications for its Small Grants Fund, with £150,000 available to help deliver schemes that boost skills, education, and employment opportunities across the borough.
The fund supports the delivery of activities that aim to improve residents’ life chances, particularly in areas of high need.
Reading Council Leader, Councillor Liz Terry, said: “The funding of these activities, through the Council’s small grants initiative, can open doors for people which would not otherwise be possible which is why, despite the funding pressures affecting all local authorities, we continue to set aside this money.
“It’s important to emphasise that as well as activities which offer up skills, education and training, we also welcome bids from groups offering participation or volunteering, as we know that can very often be the first small step towards building self-sufficiency and can often lead to other opportunities.”
Eligible voluntary and community organisations can apply for grants of up to £5,000.
Groups must have received less than £20,000 in council funding during 2024/25 and have an annual income below £100,000.
A portion of the fund is ringfenced for bids under £2,500 to support smaller-scale projects.
Councillor Ellie Emberson, Lead for Corporate Services and Resources, said: “Year after year Reading’s voluntary and community sector step up and help to deliver an amazing range of activities in our communities as part of the Small Grants Fund initiative.
“They are able to reach individuals which the Council would otherwise find it difficult to, particularly in parts of the town where need is greatest.”
Last year, 38 projects received funding, including six smaller awards of under £2,500.
Applications must be submitted by Friday, 31 October 2025, using the 2025/26 application form available on the council website.
