The Post Falls City Council voted earlier this week to pursue grants to finalize funding for the Quarry Sports Complex.
Robbie Quinn, city park planner, asked the council to approve applying for a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant for the Quarry, formerly known as Tullamore Sports Complex. The city renamed the future project to Quarry a few years ago since Post Falls already has Tullamore Park.
Phase One would add two multi-use fields, one parking lot, a shelter and plaza with two alternates for the play area and sports courts. The site will eventually be constructed near Prairie Avenue between Cecil Road and Charleville Road.
Pickleball and basketball courts were also included in the design.
The LWCF grant application seeks $1.25 million for the project estimated at $5 million. The city’s portion would come from impact fees.
The city has already collected about $5.9 million in impact fees, and after the Black Bay Park project and other recent park projects, there is about $4.3 million still available.
