NFL player announces Laurel High scholarship fund


LAUREL, Miss. (WHLT) – The Laurel School District’s annual convocation was held a few days before the start of the school year.

The assembly on Friday featured performances by the Laurel High School band, color guard, cheerleaders and Gospel singers.


Superintendent Michael Eubanks and Assistant Superintendent Victor Hubbard addressed the crowed with their intentions to improve academic success. They also showed support for teachers.

“What I’m really looking forward to most is really serving this community, serving the students of the Laurel School District because they deserve it. They deserve it,” said Eubanks.

NFL player Charles Cross, a Laurel High alumnus, made a surprise appearance to announce a $10,000 scholarship fund for graduating seniors.

“It’s important to me because I feel like they contributed to me being who I am today as a part of my community. And it is always, for me, It’s always good to invest in the community,” said Cross.

Cross was presented with a key to the city by Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee.

Students will return to class on Monday, July 22.
