NextStar Energy kicks off battery module production

Following a steady construction pace, NextStar Energy, the joint venture formed by LG Energy Solution and Stellantis is officially kicking off the start of battery module production. The facility is situated in Windsor, Ontario, and seeks to become an industry leader in North American battery technology and production. While battery modules will initially be assembled with supplied cells, the battery cells themselves will also roll off the production line once the ongoing construction work is completed in 2025.

With this latest step by the joint venture, NextStar Energy is on track to provide 49.5 gigawatt-hours of energy capacity, enough to power 450,000 vehicles annually, according to the company.

“We are thrilled to begin battery module production at NextStar Energy, which is a pivotal landmark for our operations,” said Danies Lee, CEO of NextStar Energy. “This successful launch is a reflection of our team’s expertise and dedication to innovating world-class energy solutions right here in Windsor.”

The initiative aims to accelerate the development and innovation of sustainable and efficient energy solutions by providing high energy capacity and creating jobs in North America. It is reported that over 450 of the projected 2,500 NextStar Energy jobs have been filled.
