Honeywell Expands Licensing Agreement to Support Energy Transition with New Flare Technologies

Honeywell announced a significant expansion of its licensing agreement with AFG Combustion and its subsidiary, Greens Combustion Ltd., to include Callidus flares. This expanded agreement not only doubles the range of greenhouse gas-reducing Callidus Ultra Blue Hydrogen process burners but also enhances global customer support.

This collaboration is well-suited for the global trend of adopting energy practices with lower carbon intensity. Callidus flares are essential for the secure combustion of surplus gas in industrial settings and this expansion is aimed at contributing to cleaner burning of gas by helping to reduce smoke and pollutants. Their integration is a part of Honeywell’s range of solutions designed to help encourage the shift to renewable energy and promote hydrogen as a viable alternative fuel.

Since its initial licensing agreement in 2023, Greens Combustion has completed over 50 projects using Honeywell Callidus technologies. The new agreement builds on this success by incorporating Callidus flares and aftermarket equipment, designed to boost safety and help reduce the carbon footprint in the refining and petrochemical sectors.

Richard Withnall, Managing Director of Greens Combustion, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion. “We are proud of the major projects completed with Callidus equipment and appreciate the strong collaboration between our teams. Adding flare technology and leveraging AFG Combustion’s capabilities will enhance our offerings, providing clients with both replacement flare tips and cost-effective manufacturing solutions from India and our global network.”

AFG Combustion specializes in designing, manufacturing, installing, and commissioning flare systems for various industries, including refining, petrochemicals and steel plants.

“Our commitment to international expansion and experience with complex flare projects, combined with Greens Combustion’s expertise and Honeywell’s renowned Callidus technology, positions us to extend our global reach,” said Gautham Sheth, Vice Chairman of AFG Combustion. “Together, we aim to help support the energy transition by integrating innovative flare technologies with hydrogen solutions, paving the way for a more sustainable future.”

The expanded agreement will cover Europe, Africa, India, and targeted regions in Asia, aligning with Honeywell Callidus’ goal of delivering economical and efficient flaring solutions with lower emissions than traditional technologies. Rajesh Gattupalli, President and CEO of Honeywell UOP, noted, “Working with Greens enhances our customer service through quicker responses, local support, and test development. With our cutting-edge hydrogen technologies, we not only improve performance but also help support the industry’s efforts in transition to more sustainable energy.”
